This class addresses drawing as an immediate, pleasurable response to what is in front of your own eyes. Draw anywhere, anytime. Make a journal of images as well as words. Requirements are simple: paper, something to make marks, and a peaceful attitude. This class is intended to help you engage that peace and enable your hand to do what your eye sees. We work from various still life materials: plants, vegetables, shells, rocks, drapery; from nature—when weather permits; and we often do gesture drawing in venues like a coffee shop. I supply paper and media: pencil, conté crayon, lithography crayon, willow charcoal, pen, and brushes for wash drawing. Each session also includes examining methods used by artists from various times and cultures.
